My immense interest in sound art has not started to kick in until my 3rd year in university. In 2018/19 Semester A, I took 2 sound art courses (SM3130 Sound Installation and Sound Spatialisation & SM4143 Sonic Arts and the History of Sounds and Noises) and they’ve changed my life completely. That’s when I decided that I have to make a sonic artwork for my graduation project. Theses 2 courses are also where I learned about the major inspiration for this project - I Am Sitting In A Room (1969) by Alvin Lucier. As a vintage tech lover, the inclusion of audio tapes has been a fixed factor from stage zero. The struggle was - should I do an installation or a performance? The decision was as simple as: I’m not a good performer. Let’s do installation and let the audience experience the work in the absence of the artist. (Perhaps the finished product can be turned into a performance. Who knows?)
Detailed Proposal as at 31/1:
(Most information about my project idea can be found in the proposal.)
The blog mainly documents this sound installation’s development process, as well as extra research conducted during the process.
Due to change of official schedule, I also postponed the stages a bit. Below is my new work schedule (instead of that one in the linked proposal).
